Bandung Street Documentary #4: Have Rules, Will Break

BANDUNG TAXI copyrights Eki Akhwan

I think this street/traffic sign is universally recognized as a "NO PARKING" sign. But these cabs from a Bandung taxi company just parked underneath it.

Just in case you are curious what those words underneath the sign reads: "Sepanjang Jalan Dr. Djundjunan" means along Dr. Djundjunan Street.

Jalan Dr. Djundjunan, the place where I took this photo, is one of the west side entry points into the city of Bandung. It connects the Cipularang toll road gate to the city center.

I can't help but wonder if this kind of thing also happens in your cities. (I guess not :( )

  1. They did look orderly all parked uniformly like that. And they also made a good photo =)

Unfortunately this happens all the time in my city also.

  2. Yes it happens but to a lesser extent. Very pleasing line of blue they make though, leading you thoguh the image. Interesting to note the inclusion of the title "Dr" in the street name. Streets in the the UK, and here are often named after people, but their name, ranther tahn title appear.

Re how the Isle of Man got it's name. I'm working on some posts for that. All myths and legends of course, as is so much of the island. Good question.

  3. Interesting use of the car boot as advertising panel.Well in Kuching( Sarawak, Borneo) sometimes taxis do park at the wrong places ( more than temporarily)if enforcement is lax.Anyway they look orderly in the picture.

  4. If you're lucky here you can get away with it for a short time. But generally you will get a ticket that will cost you some money (maybe $25) and/or your car will be towed away (you pay for the tow as well as the ticket - much more expensive and troublesome.) People in Victoria generally obey the No Parking signs.

  5. Regularly we have people park Haphazardly (not usually taxis though as we don't have very many), but the amazing thing is the response of the other people, it is calmly tolerated! Except...if you have a assigned parking spot (Usually you have to pay for it)and someone parks in your place, whoo...then you get scoldins!

  6. I am always amazed at the attitude of taxi drivers - it seems anything goes as long as you don't get caught!

  7. I like the idea of "orderly" disorderly parking. Eki, you find the most interesting photos. I can never find these things in my city.

  8. People do park in no-parking places. Sometimes they get a ticket or sometimes towed away. You have very cute looking taxi cabs...
