Parking Fees at Stasiun Bandung

Here is the list of parking fees currently applicable at Stasiun Bandung (Bandung Railway Station):

Cars: Rp 2,000 per hour or Rp Rp 24,000 max for overnight or 24 hour parking.

Motorcycles: Rp 12,000 max for overnight or 24 hour parking.

Box/trucks: Rp 5,000 per hour or Rp 10,000 max.

Buses: Rp 50,000 flat.

The list raises some questions: How much is the hourly charge for motorcycles? How long can a truck or bus be parked there?

Roofed Walkway

This is one of the two roofed walkways that connect the northern gate and the main building of Bandung Railway Station.

The walkways flanked each side of the parking lot and protect passenger pedestrians from the sun and the rain.

Bandung Railway Station's North Exit

Stasiun Hall has two exits and two entrances: The north exit and entrance are located on Kebon Kawung Street, whereas the south exit and entrance are on Stasiun Barat Street.

Passangers can enter and exit the station through either of the entrances and exits depending on which train they want to take or where they want to go upon exiting from the station. There is an angkot terminal just in front of the southern entrance/exit. A taxi stand is available in the north. The northern part of the station has a large parking facility for cars and motocycles; the south has more limited parking space.

Padalarang Railway Station

This is Padalarang Railway Station viewed from a pedestrian crossing bridge on the west side of it.

Padalarang Station is the western most destination of Bandung's east - west (and currently the only) commuter train lines. It is located in the town of Padalarang at the elevation of more than 695 meters above the sea level and about 20 kilometers west of Bandung's city center. The station was built towards the end of the 19th century and has retained most of the original structure, including -- as you can see from here -- the wooden walls of the roof.

From this station westward, the railway tracks branch out to two different directions: northwest to Purwakarta and Jakarta and southwest to Cianjur and Sukabumi.

Give Way, Please!

Passengers trying to get off the commuter train meet -- and are blocked by -- those who are trying to get on it. Queuing and giving ways are manners that many of us are yet to learn. Unfortunately, only very little deliberate efforts have ever been made to do so. The situation is much worse with the commuter trains because the number of passengers far outnumber the available cars and trips. Out of panic, most passengers would rush to the platform as soon as the train is approaching and try to get on it before those inside can get off. It's a dangerous stampede-like experience especially for children, women, old people, and people with disabilities.

Public and mass transportation transportation system is long overdue homework for the city's government. There is virtually no working, well-coordinated, safe and convenient system of public and mass transportation system in this city.

Getting Multilingual, Getting International

This multilingual sign/direction at Stasiun Hall (Bandung's main railway station) could very well be among the first in town. Most signs and directions in this city are written in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) and only few of them are written bilingually in English and Indonesian. I think it has been put up only recently. It was not there when I passed the station about two weeks ago.

This multilingual sign is probaly a good sign that the city is getting more international. In the past couple of years, Bandung has indeed been receiving more overseas visitors, easpecially since the opening of direct flights between this city and Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Night at the Station

Stasion Hall was first used on 17 May, 1884 and was officially dedicated on 16 June of the same year.
