Pony Ride
Around the Cilaki Park that I posted yesterday, you can see these horsemen/ponymen offering pony ride. For a small fare, you could ride these ponies around the park and its vicinities. Because these horses are small (that's why I call them ponies), usually only children ride them. The horsemen/ponymen would run alongside the horse/pony to keep the young rider from falling over.

Bandung's 200th Anniversary Special Edition: Time Travel Video 1810 - 2010
Today, 25 September 2010, is the 200th anniversary of the city of Bandung. A lot events are currently taking place in the city to celebrate the auspicious day. Instead of reporting those events, however, today I'd like to take you back in time to see what life in the city was like in the old days with these three select videos. The first and second one are movies comparing the old Bandung and the city in 2008 (they have a nice music and song in Dutch). These videos are coutesy of mybandoeng at YouTube. The third video is a silent movie depicting a fragment of life in the city in the early 20th century, courtesy of allbandung.com at YouTube.
Please enjoy the time travel.

Ghost Train
The car of the economy-class KRD commuter train traveling its last trip in the evening is dim and grim like a ghost train. Despite its look, however, it's relatively safe. I often use it to get home in the evening because it is the cheapest and fastest means of public transportation to get to the suburb from the city center.

Solar Powered Street Light
This is a sample (pilot project) solar-powered street light at Bandung City Hall complex on Jalan Merdeka. In the future, most street lights in the city will be solar powered.

Commuter Train Ticket
This is the ticket of Rencang Geulis express commuter train that serves Bandung and Padalarang (a town 18 kilometers west of Bandung). As you can see, the fare costs only 5,000 IDR or about 0.5 USD.

Biking is Good
In color or black and white, biking is good and getting more popular. Unfortunately, this city hasn't got a dedicated bicycle lane yet. Perhaps it's about time the government start thinking about building one.
PS.
Just after I published this post, I was informed by several friends of mine that Bandung did have a dedicated bicycle lane. In fact, it has just been dedicated. They, however, already complained that the lane was not sterile and safe, i.e. cars still use it and some are even parked on it without any penalty.
