Bandung Pandu Dutch Cemetery

These neat rows of white tombstones on a green field are part of the Dutch Field of Honor (locally known as Dutch Cemetery) at Pandu area in the city center. Interred here are the Dutch casualties killed in the battle they fought to defend Ciater and Subang areas in the north of Bandung against the incoming Japanese army in the World War II. Some Dutch civilians from the Bangka-Belitung islands near Sumatera were also later interred (or re-interred) here. The cemetery is now maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission (CWGC).

Prof Wolff Schoemaker Tombstone

This indistinct and ordinary looking tombstone is that of Prof Wolff Schoemarker (25 July 1882 - 22 May 1949), one of Indonesia's finest architects of his time and the designer of many of Bandung's historical landmarks. To learn more about him please follow the link I have given.

Accidental Art?

The slots are not of course not meant as a place where you can put your helmets. They are for bicycle parking. But looking at their colors, I can't help thinking that they must be some sort of installation art. By accident!

I took the photo in front of Eiger Adventure Store on Jalan Sumatera, Bandung.

Tempat parkir sepeda itu jadi tampak seperti seni instalasi karena kombinasi warna dan bentuknya. Seni tak sengaja? :)
