A Singaporean photographer friend, his wife, and their Malaysian friends came to visit this weekend. I took them to Kawah Putih (which literally means White Crater) in the south of Bandung on Sunday.
Kawah Putih is arguably one of the most beautiful crater lakes on the island of Java, and quite probably in the Indonesian archipelago. It is located about 46 kilometers south of Bandung on Patuha mountain (2,434 meters above sea level). The crater was discovered by a Dutch-German botanist and platation estate owner Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn in 1837. According to geologists, this crater lake was created as a result of Mt. Patuha volcanic erruption in the year 1000 - 1200.

I've ever visited this crater with my brother. It was a pity,there was rainy season at that time so we could not feel the real view of Kawah Putih. Many couples using this place to be their pra-wedding photos.As suggestion for everyone, it is better for you to visit this place in a good weather.. ;p

It is quite nice there. I suppose the white is from sulpher or something seeping up from the old volcano. I would imagine it would be a wonderful place to visit.

Its a strange looking body of water. Is it safe to swim, drink there? Are there fishes?

for me, the crater commonly gives the horrifying sense because it is in the deep inside of the mountain. however, i get the different feeling when i see this picture. we can see it in the close sight. i actually have not come to this place yet.
anyway, it is a perfect capture.
It was a great trip for me, my wife and friends. Thank you for your hospitality.
